5 Habits of Highly Effective Moms

by Stepfanie B on June 18, 2010

What makes an effective mother? That depends on how you define effective. Effective to me means keeping your children happy, while keeping your sanity in tact.

Here are my 5 habits that I beleive makes an effective mother.

1. She puts her kids needs before hers. This one can be taken the wrong way. We all know that mommy needs to keep her sanity and do things for herself. No one in their right mind would keep mommy from that. What I do mean is if you come home from work, tired and exhausted, but your daughter has been waiting for you all day: you play with her and skip the nap you were looking forward to.

2. She keeps her purse prepared. Along with credit cards and lipstick, you’ll be sure to find some bandaids, crackers, crayons, and plenty of wipes in a highly effective moms purse.

3. She stays well informed. A highly effective mom knows her childrens favorite foods, pet peeves, and strengths and weaknesses.

4. She asks for help. A highly effective mom can’t do it all, and acknowledges it. She partners with friends, husband, and grandma to increase her effectiveness and childrens happiness.

5. She sets aside time for herself. An effective mom knows that to be an effective mom she needs to be an effective woman. Making sure your happy and cared for is a sure fire way to keep your children happy. Am effective mom keeps her schedule open for her children, but adds wiggle room for herself.

What’s your take on an effective habit that keeps you a great mother? What are some of your rules you live by? or don’t? :-)

As a mother of mostly grown children, one thing I have always tried to do is listen to what they are REALLY saying. Not the words that are coming out of their mouth, but what is coming out of their hearts. Great blog, will def be back!

I completely agree. Listening was always a big thing I wish my parents always did when I was growing up. Thanks for stopping by and see you again soon! :-)

I Love this post & agree whole-heartedly … I have three toddlers, hubby, full-time job and a passion for writing, so I know first hand how SUPER moms really are. It’s not easy … but it’s definitely worth every minute!!

Three toddlers? I think that qualifies you as super mom alone! :-)

Gotta say, this post was fanTAStic, and a pleasant surprise…because I just realized that I am a “Highly Effective Mom”!! (that is, I do actually try follow all 5 of the habits, at least!) Thanks so much for making me smile! (And I really did realize quite a while ago that when someone asks if you need help – say YES!!!) :)
