Mommy Credentials

by Stepfanie B on June 8, 2010

I’ve been trying to keep busy planning our first conference for the Lady Bloggers Society in November. Planning this was something that I’ve been wanting to do for the longest time, and I’m excited that it is finally happening. Contacting different venues and sponsors for the past 48 hours straight has made me feel like such a professional, I feel like I should be wearing a trendy skirt suit and some black heels.

Along with planning this conference, I’ve also been trying to book some more speaking arrangements at some my local business groups and social media groups. One of the things that always come up is my credentials and experience when planning this huge conference.

I always mention how I own and operate a residential and commercial cleaning business, how I contract with Apple doing work at home for them, and also how I started the Lady Bloggers Society. Then I always get asked “How” and “Why”.

I started the residential cleaning service after my daughter was born because I did not want to go back to work and leave her with family or at the hands of a daycare worker. So as my daughter was merely a couple of months old I was starting my service business, gaining clients, writing contracts, etc. Very busy for an 18 year old. Yes, 18 years old with a baby and business.

Becoming pregnant with my second child, I wanted to do some more online work and take the leap from entrepreneur, to Internet entrepreneur. So I turned to something that I had loved doing for the past 5 years. Blogging. I had been blogging for so long, but didn’t make those connections that other bloggers were looking for. Thus came in The Lady Bloggers Society.

With starting that website, I’ve also been able to book and schedule speaking gigs and have been excited about that as well.

So when speaking about how and why I am doing what I’m doing is that I am trying to make the best life for my children, by staying home with them as much as possible, and doing something that I love doing.

My biggest credentials I have is that I am making all of this work while being a mom. My children are my biggest “experience” and when people hear about what I am doing, and the kind of work that I am doing, they are always hugely impressed by the mere fact that I started this as a mother and am able to keep doing it as a mother.

Who better to talk about multi-tasking when your on a conference call while changing a diaper and sending out 10 e-mails? Who better to learn about guerrilla marketing than someone who can get a 2 year old to finish a complete plate of carrots and peas?

Thank you kids!

Visiting from the Tea Party and was surprised to find you’re one of the founders of LBS! You are one busy lady. I honestly don’t know how you do it. When my daughters were young, I felt as though I’d accomplished a lot if I could manage to get the dishwasher unloaded and loaded, a load of laundry finished and everyone meals. I certainly didn’t manage any networking. You’re an awesome gal!
