It’s been my goal to get some more writing gigs for some time now. Needless to say, I’ve let things get in the way of achieving that goal: excuses, procrastination, and most of all, just pure laziness. I will be the first to go ahead and admit that now.
The thing about getting more writing gigs and more freelance writing jobs, is that the only way to secure those jobs is to write. No suprise there. And no suprise that I’ve been a little tied up with no time to actually write some new articles and blog posts to submit.
Even though right now I feel like it is a good time to spew out some written words. Trulybear is at the age where she is entertained by other things, coloring, writing, and AddyBaby is still a newborn so her schedule consists of fun things like eating, pooping, and sleeping for 5 hours straight.
I’ve used things like “being a mom” as an excuse to not take writing more seriously, but then I look at writers like Christina Katz, who even wrote about being a writing mama (which book I have) and I realize that being a mother can only make me a stronger writer.
Being a writer is what I want to do. There isn’t a doubt about that at all. I just have to take it more seriously, and if I don’t become a writer, there is no one to blame but myself and my choices.
I read this on my mom’s facebook this morning: Discipline is remembering what you want. – David Campbell.
And I promise. I will make this happen.

Thanks for this post, especially that quote. Discipline is not my strong suit…but I realize I have to do what’s necessary to get what I want. This whole “make a schedule for blogging” is so not me…but I can see it works! Baby steps for me..just baby steps.

Writing is like that. Unfortunately it is one of those things that we let get pushed to the back burner in life. There will never seem a good time. There will always be something. I have found that to be true. I am always waiting for ‘the right time’, but the right time is now because no other time will seem any better.

Excellent – I need to profit from this advice. Additionally, did you know about 750words.com?? Heard about it from LaVonne Ellis. Free, you log on and do your “morning pages” there. Kewl. . .
First of all I like the design of your site. I also use Thesis on my sites. I am visiting from the Lady Blogger’s Society. I missed the Tea Party and the BBQ Party. But I am here now…
I enjoyed this post about being a writer. I started my chick flicks blog as an outlet for my writing. But at that time I had a full-time job. Now, I am unemployed and want to explore the idea of writing for a living.
All of the writing blogs (Men with Pens, Copyblogger, Chris Gillebeau) say the same thing. “If you want to be a writer, you have to write everyday”. My goal is to write 2 hours a day, but as you say it takes discipline.
Wow…I could have writen this…if I wasn’t so busy making up excuses myself, hahaha!
I’m in a similar place. I want to write more. I want to apply for more writing jobs. Instead, I just keep making up excuses as to why now isn’t the right time. It does take time and disciple to get what you want…but that’s just it, if you want it bad enough you’ll make that time.
Thanks for this inspirational post. Discipline is what I am find to stick by in achieving my dream of becoming a writer.
I would like to join a writer’s workshop with the aim of getting published. I am going to work on the story I am writing now! I am you new follower.
